The Lady Royals basketball team was back on the hardwood on Tuesday in Conway, AR against the Central Baptist College Mustangs. Historically this matchup has fallen in favor of CBC, but the Royals were hoping to change that.
The Royals came out aggressive and competitive in the first quarter with a balanced attack lead by Madison Bailey (pictured) with five points. Although they did not start out shooting the ball well from the field, they made up for it by making seven free-throws to enter the second quarter trailing 17-12. In the second quarter the Mustangs were able to spread the score to a halftime score of 44-29. Entering half time the Royals were lead by Alysia Pickett, Grace Crawford, and Madison Bailey in points, rebounds, and assists.
The Ladies of Ecclesia came out swinging in the second half and put up a big 22 point third quarter lead by nine points from Junior forward Grace Crawford. This cut the deficit to nine points entering the fourth quarter. Unfortunately the Royals were not able to maintain the momentum and CBC managed to pull away due to capatilizing on late game free-throws. Despite a great effort, and a great showing from the Royal faithful on the road the ladies fell short 85-67.
Alysia Pickett: 20 points and 8 assists
Grace Crawford: 18 points and 10 rebounds
Madison Bailey: 11 points and 5 rebounds
Due to postponed games, the Lady Royals will play next against Crowley's Ridge College on Tuesday November 10, 2020.
